In the Romans 7.15-20 , Paul asks a series of questions that we all deal with.
7:15 For I don’t understand what I am doing. For I do not do what I want—instead, I do what I hate.22 7:16 But if I do what I don’t want, I agree that the law is good.23 7:17 But now it is no longer me doing it, but sin that lives in me. 7:18 For I know that nothing good lives in me, that is, in my flesh. For I want to do the good, but I cannot do it.24 7:19 For I do not do the good I want, but I do the very evil I do not want! 7:20 Now if I do what I do not want, it is no longer me doing it but sin that lives in me.
Dr. Jekyll struggled with the sins of his alter-ego, Mr. Hyde.
Paul struggled with his own sinful nature.
When I look in the mirror, I see another monster struggling with sin. Me. So what can I do? That’s what I want to know, that’s what Dr. Jekyll wanted to know, and that’s probably what you want to know.
Paul answers the problem as he continues to write.
Romans 8.1 says, “There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.”
Christ will deal with our sins. We must put our lives in Christ, striving for the same things Christ strove for, concerned about the same things Christ was concerned for. And while it will not be easy (Paul shows us that!), we must live a life that is…
…all about Christ,
David
